Glynnis Miller - Graphite/Charcoal pencil artist
Biography
Glynnis Miller is a self taught representational artist. She was born in Berkeley, California but her school years were spent in the ranching community of Elko, Nevada. Her love of horses became an intimate reality when she bought her first horse at the age of 14.
This love of horses is what brought Glynnis to her second love – drawing. Early on when she couldn’t have a horse of her own, she started drawing them and a new passion was born which she has continued to cultivate over the course of life.
Glynnis’ work has won her many awards, including numerous Best in show, plus inclusion in distinguished art shows across the country.
Statement
My work is a representational expression of what moves me emotionally. Inspiration comes from every corner of life and my many travels in the western United States. I am compelled to relate and express the power, grace, beauty, magnetic energy and soul of the horse, wildlife, and human spirit in my art.
I use the simple, yet complex, medium of the pencil because I love the detail I am able to obtain with a sharp tip, plus the use of light and shadow to create contrast and ultimately shape and texture. I have created my own technique of multi-layering pencil and Acrylics on a surface of hot-press Bristol paper or claybord panel.
